Damon Johnston Artistic Director

The Board of Pro Arts is delighted to announce that Damon Johnston is our new artistic director, effective September 15th, 2008.

Damon brings to Pro Arts Society his extensive background as an arts administrator with a creative twist. As our new artistic director, he will be developing the full potential of our venue The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer for arts presentations while honouring its parochial needs and being sensitive to its sacred purpose. His leadership in programming will be providing a showcase for local and touring talent, bringing new audiences to our historical building and collaborating with artists, other arts groups and organizations in innovative explorations.

Well-known and respected in the arts community for his long association from its founding with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, Damon's leadership and advocacy in the arts community as Executive Director of Dancers Studio West embraced a full spectrum of performing arts companies inviting them to use DSW's facilities for rehearsals and performances. His collaborative attitude spawned productions and co-productions that reflected the Calgary arts scene and projected the hopes and dreams of many artists.

For the past three years, Damon has been consulting with small but expanding arts groups to mentor them into sound management practices.

We hope you will drop by Music@Noon any Wednesday to enjoy our talented performers and say hello to Damon.

Pro Arts Society gives soul to the heart of the city through its programs at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer. A free noon hour performance happens every Wednesday throughout the year from 12:10 pm - 12:50 pm allowing downtown workers to spend a stress-free portion of their lunch with us and return to work promptly, all within an hour.
