With an eye to the golden age of jazz and a finger on the pulse of the modern singer-songwriter aesthetic, Allison Lynch creates a singular compositional voice that transcends the era through a vibrant mix of modern and classic melodies.
Allison Lynch is a Canadian singer, lyricist, actor and composer. Growing up with jazz musician parents, she began studying violin, piano, guitar and ukulele from an early age, incorporating them into her songwriting. Allison has performed at the Calgary Folk music festival, the Medicine Hat Jazz Festival and Brazilfest, and has toured Ontario as well as performing with the Malaysian, Winnipeg and Victoria Symphonies. With an eye to the golden age of jazz and a finger on the pulse of the modern singer-songwriter aesthetic, Allison Lynch creates a singular compositional voice that transcends era through a deliberate mix of the modern and the classic. With technical chops earned from her Bachelor of Music in classical singing and composition, Allison fuses jazz, blues, folk and pop influences on Skin & Flame, her intimate first release that features sensuous vocals, bluesy folk-uke ballads and newly imagined standards from the jazz repertoire.
This concert is the second in a series of three concerts co-presented with the mighty High Performance Rodeo, Calgary’s International Festival of the Arts.
