Light and dark are musical themes that captivate and continue to capture the imagination of composers, arrangers, and performers. This concert will feature a range of ways to express sunlight and moonlight through music. The program features Gideon Choi on piano, along with special guests Jason Erhardt (cello/voice) and Han Friesen (voice).
Calgary Opera’s McPhee Artists
Eight young professional singers from across Canada take the stage for their first appearance at ProArts this season. Their program include selections from Donizett’s L’ELISIR d’AMORE [The Elixer of Love], DON PASQUALE, Bizet’s THE PEARLFISHERS, and the upcoming Canadian premiere of Vittorio Giannini’s BEAUTY & THE BEAST.

This special concert features two works for piano that are greatly admired by Eric Nyland: Bach’s G major Toccata and Franck’s Prelude, Choral, et Fugue.
Osmond Chiu, viola with guest
The viola is one of the most under appreciated instruments in music, as it is often shadowed by the more flamboyant violins and the larger deeper cellos and bass. Joined by violinists Robert Penner and Eric Auerbach, plus cellist Shirley Wright, explore a noon hour concert celebrating the power and beauty of the viola with Osmond Chiu!

Kevin and I feel Beethoven’s Spring Sonata is perfect for an April concert! Kevin and I will be performing together four times next week in Portland, which will give us a great opportunity to refine our collaboration ahead of this concert.
