Ensemble singing combines the allure of learning a skill and setting ourselves a challenge with the chance to de-stress from our hectic working lives.
While any singing has rewards, there are reasons you should find a choir rather than simply singing in the shower and leaving it at that. Studies have found that group singing releases oxytocin, a chemical that manages anxiety and stress and, according to McGill University professor Daniel Levitin, enhances feelings of trust and bonding!
Now in its thirteen season, the ProArts@Noon Concert Series is a free, weekly, noon hour concert series presented in the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer in the heart of Calgary’s Cultural District. With concerts staged during the lunch hour, the series is highly eclectic; featuring such diverse expressions as Calgary’s Rembetica Hipsters, Calgary Organ Festival, Calgary Opera Emerging Artist Ensemble and Fiona Malena Flamenco Society.
April 01, 2015 | German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary
The German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary, with over 30 active members, was founded in 1971. For a majority of that time our fate has been in the capable hands of director Susan Woodward. The events calendar in various years has typically included a fall or spring concert, sometimes sharing the stage with groups like the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Calgary Opera Chorus, or the Calgary Concert Band. The Chorus has made numerous trips abroad to the USA and to Europe. In September 2014 the Chorus was in southern Germany and Austria giving concerts together with local choirs.

December 02, 2015 | MASS ENERGY CONCERT!
This much anticipated annual event features three of Calgary’s more prominent “oil patch” community choirs – Repsol, Suncor Energy and ConocoPhillips Choirs. Each choir presents a short program, and then all are combined for a remarkable and moving MASS ENERGY choral finalè. A perennial audience favourite, this is a great concert to kick-off the Christmas season! With well over seventy singers when all three choirs are combined, this concert really does “raise the roof” at the acoustically superb Cathedral Church. You are welcome to bring your bring your lunch – and for this special concert – your voice as well, for the “sing-along” Christmas caroling!
