ProArts@Noon Concerts is proud to announce their partnership with Repsol to present the Repsol Choral Series 2015, which features a diverse selection of community choirs in our city. This special series will be part of the ProArts@Noon weekly schedule of Wednesday concerts.

Ensemble singing combines the allure of learning a skill and setting ourselves a challenge with the chance to de-stress from our hectic working lives.

While any singing has rewards, there are reasons you should find a choir rather than simply singing in the shower and leaving it at that. Studies have found that group singing releases oxytocin, a chemical that manages anxiety and stress and, according to McGill University professor Daniel Levitin, enhances feelings of trust and bonding!

Now in its thirteen season, the ProArts@Noon Concert Series is a free, weekly, noon hour concert series presented in the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer in the heart of Calgary’s Cultural District. With concerts staged during the lunch hour, the series is highly eclectic; featuring such diverse expressions as Calgary’s Rembetica Hipsters, Calgary Organ Festival, Calgary Opera Emerging Artist Ensemble and Fiona Malena Flamenco Society.

The Repsol Choral Series 2015

April 01, 2015 | German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary

The German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary, with over 30 active members, was founded in 1971. For a majority of that time our fate has been in the capable hands of director Susan Woodward. The events calendar in various years has typically included a fall or spring concert, sometimes sharing the stage with groups like the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Calgary Opera Chorus, or the Calgary Concert Band. The Chorus has made numerous trips abroad to the USA and to Europe.  In September 2014 the Chorus was in southern Germany and Austria giving concerts together with local choirs.

May 20, 2015 | Vocal Latitudes World Music Choir

Vocal Latitudes World Music Choir is a Calgary-based community choir created in 2005. This mixed-voice, non audition choir under the direction of Frank Rackow sings traditional and popular music from around the world, in a variety of languages and styles. Vocal Latitudes has performed in churches, concert halls, homeless shelters and seniors’ residences. Typically, Vocal Latitudes will present a warm selection of seasonal and non-seasonal songs drawn from the jazz, renaissance, gospel, pop, world and contemporary repertoires.

June 10, 2015 | Repsol Choir

The Repsol Choir is a recreational choir formed in the spring of 2002, under the direction of Theresa Wasden, and accompanied by local artist Ron Proctor at the piano. This four-part choir performs in the spring plus during the Christmas season and takes the role of company ambassador seriously, performing at various downtown and community venues. Highlights for the Repsol Choir include having released “Wreath of Carols”, a full-length CD fundraiser for the United Way of Calgary, and most recently, a “Feel the Energy” Mass Energy choral concert. This corporate choir continues to challenge itself with more complex pieces, mixing contemporary favourites with classical compositions, and having a lot of fun along the way!

June 17, 2015| Suncor Energy Choir

The Suncor Energy Choir, formerly the Petro-Canada Chorale, has been singing for nearly forty years. Originally comprised of only company employees, the choir also brings together others, most of who work downtown, who love to sing. The choir rehearses Wednesday lunch hours September through June and performs frequently throughout the year in the downtown core, at seniors residences, and community sponsored events. If singing at lunchtime is something that you would like to be involved in, please call Bruce Campbell, President of the Suncor Energy Choir, at (403) 296-6876

August 19, 2015 | EnChor Chamber Choir

EnChor Chamber Choir is comprised of singers whose distinct talents combine “In Chorus,” to share their love of choral music. Founded in 2005 by director Elizabeth Paynter, EnChor strives to share a broad depth and range of choral repertoire. Renaissance to folk, world music to pop, jazz to innovative contemporary works; all are explored. EnChor also proudly highlights the work of Canadian artists, and includes Canadian content in every concert. An important part of our directive is to collaborate with Calgary artists. We have shared events with The Calgary Men’s Chorus, The Calgary Renaissance Singers & Players, Foothills Brass, Corps Bara Dance Theatre, the UofC Orchestra, and the Karl Schwonick Trio, to name a few.

December 02, 2015 | MASS ENERGY CONCERT!

This much anticipated annual event features three of Calgary’s more prominent “oil patch” community choirs – Repsol, Suncor Energy and ConocoPhillips Choirs. Each choir presents a short program, and then all are combined for a remarkable and moving MASS ENERGY choral finalè. A perennial audience favourite, this is a great concert to kick-off the Christmas season! With well over seventy singers when all three choirs are combined, this concert really does “raise the roof” at the acoustically superb Cathedral Church. You are welcome to bring your bring your lunch – and for this special concert – your voice as well, for the “sing-along” Christmas caroling!
