The Crescent Heights High School Choir is comprised of students from grades 9-12 who love to sing, or want to learn to sing. Students meet once a week for rehearsals. There is a long standing tradition of choral singing at Crescent Heights High school, one of the oldest schools in Calgary. The Crescent choir regularly performs for school events, and has participated in mass choir performances with the Calgary Children’s Choir and the St Giles Choir, of Mozart’s Requiem, and most recently, John Rutter’s Mass of the Children in which they had the opportunity to sing under the baton of Maestro Will Kesling from the University of Florida. Crescent Heights anticipates the performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria, again to be sung as part of a mass choir with the Calgary Children’s Choir and St. Giles Choir, under the direction of Professor Janos Horvath, on December 11, 2012, at the Rosza Centre.
Conductor Marni Strome has been a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education for over 20 years. Ms Strome is also the Artistic Director of the Calgary Children’s Choir, and music director at St. Giles Presbyterian Church. Ms Strome’s choirs have been award winners in local and provincial music festivals, and have toured to Europe, New York, Hawaii, Japan, England, and various parts of Canada. Ms Strome has recently received an invitation to have her choirs participate in the singing of Carmina Burana in a production in Bulgaria.
