German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary

German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary

The German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary, directed by Susan Woodward and accompanied on piano by Liz Tremblay, has been singing locally, nationally and internationally for over 50 years.  The love of German folksongs brought an original group of 10 men together, one of whom still sings in the choir.  The choir is committed to promoting German music, but incorporates repertoire in other languages into their programs as well.  Members of the choir also represent many different cultural backgrounds besides German – they include Dutch, Hungarian, Austrian, English, Welsh, and, of course, Canadian.  After not being able to sing together for such a long time, it is with great joy that the choir performs once again as part of the Pro-Arts Society Concert Series.

Concert Description:

During the pandemic, the German Canadian Male Chorus, a more-mature group of singers, undertook to learn how to rehearse via Zoom.  This was no small undertaking but enabled the group to keep connected as they learned new repertoire.  The concert being presented today is the music initially learned over Zoom and includes music by Mendelssohn, an arrangement of a familiar tune by Handel, folksongs and sea shanties.  Greg Rumpel on accordion joins the choir as their guest for this performance.

This concert is the fourth in a series of seven Choral Concerts during 2022 generously sponsored by:
