The German Canadian Male Chorus was founded in 1971 by German immigrants who wished to enjoy and preserve their German choral culture. Today, they sing approximately 60% of their songs in German and about 60% of their members are still immigrants from Germany and nearby countries. In addition to an annual concert, their events calendar includes taking their music to seniors’ centres and care homes, and sharing stages with other Calgary choirs and musicians including the Calgary Opera Chorus and the Calgary Concert Band. They have also made several tours abroad to Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy and the USA. The choir has just returned from a concert tour of England in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Canada.
The choir is directed by Susan Woodward and accompanied by Jeannie Park.
Musical guests for this concert are: Liz Tremblay, Cello; Diane Valentine, Violin; Jim Heck, Guitar; Laszlo Kajdy, Guitar and Harmonica and Dieter Voortman, Whistle.
This concert is the fifth in a series of six Choral Concerts during 2017 generously sponsored by:
