

Redline Trio brings ensemble interaction to life with an adventurous and modern perspective.
Since 2016, Redline Trio has been featured weekly at Betty Lou’s Library, an award-winning speakeasy in downtown Calgary. They have presented concerts at the National Music Centre (King Eddy), cSPACE, artsPlace (Canmore), and the Ironwood Stage and grill. They have featured various renowned guest artists, including Juno-winners Brandi Disterheft, Brad Turner and David Braid, New York pianist Steve Hudson, poets Sheri-D Wilson, Quincy Troupe, and others.
Their 2024 Chronograph vinyl album “Underdog” was the YYC Music Award-winner for Best Jazz Album. “Underdog features all original music with guests Brad Turner and NY pianist Steve Hudson. In 2019, Redline Trio recorded their debut cd, garnering a YYC Music Awards nominations for Group of the Year and Best Jazz Album.
Their newest upcoming album (fall 2025) features Calgary pianist Joanna Borromeo, and Vancouver trumpeter Brad Turner.
Drummer Jeff Sulima has taken his musicianship across the ocean, holding down residencies in Europe and Asia. A consummate accompanist, Jeff can deftly shape the turn of a phrase with his nuanced percussive palate, and just as easily light the room on fire with his thundering malletsand driving kick drum.
Bassist Stephen Shepard draws in listeners and fellow musicians alike, while his creativity on the bandstand gives Redline Trio a harmonic foundation of epic yet elastic proportions.
Saxophonist Mark DeJong has deep roots in music from around the globe, and his experiences inform his reverence for tradition while balancing the adventurousness of a trailblazer. His saxophone wails, roars and cajoles listeners to dive deep.
