Flautist Emily Phernambucq (Fer- nam – boohk) is 17 years old and began playing flute at age five. She currently studies with Lauren Eselson and is a member of the Advanced Performance Program and Academy for Gifted Youth at the Mount Royal Conservatory. Emily was fortunate this year to be selected as one of Calgary Pro Musica Society’s Young Artist Development Program students. Over the years, she has won numerous awards at the Calgary Kiwanis Festival and will be representing Calgary in the Woodwind Provincial-National class at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival. Emily is the principal flutist of the Calgary Youth Orchestra under the direction of Edmond Agopian and was also the principal flutist in the Alberta Provincial Honour Band and Music Symposium.
Soprano Hannah Pagenkopf will be representing Calgary in the Vocal Provincial-National class in Edmonton later this month. A little bit about Hannah – she began her musical training playing violin, and has since expanded her musical interests to include a variety of instruments including guitar and banjo. Hannah is pursuing a History degree with a minor in Music at the University of Calgary. She has been studying voice with Julie Harris for four years, and is a member of the music ensemble ‘Collegium Musicum’ at U of C.
