T.A.L.E.S. World Storytelling Day celebration

World Storytelling Day is March 20, 2016 and to celebrate we’ve inviting four local storytellers to present their work for us:

Marie BryceMarie Bryce – It was in Scotland that Marie reconnected with her own family history and deeper connection to the land and recognized her love for writing and telling stories. Marie began to spend much of her time at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, taking courses, listening to stories and telling both traditional and her own authored tales.

Karen's favourite portrait IMG_7177Karen Gummo is a dedicated founder of the local TALES storytelling community. She has a deep passion for her Scandinavian heritage and recently travelled to Iceland to perform her favourite Nordic sagas. Karen offers residencies and performances in schools and seniors lodges, cafes, bookstores, at historic sites and has travelled across Canada to Newfoundland to perform for all ages.

Maria Hopkins portrait081004.07[1]Maria Hopkins, born in Poland, tells stories to heal, teach and touch people’s hearts. She captivates her audience with an expressive and passionate style.
The themes and subject matter she chooses embody a sense of timeless wisdom appealing to people of all ages.
Her stories take on a life of their own, in a way which is both entertaining and profound.


Dirleton Calum 10Born in Ayrshire in the heart of Burns country, Calum Lykan grew up surrounded by the stories from this rich and beautiful area. Calum is a passionate and energetic performer of Scottish, Irish and world myths and legends with a style that engages younger audiences, teenagers and adults alike.
