Join us for a concert of International voice – featuring soprano Laura Styler as well as tenor Jorge Avilês. Each will perform works from their country of origin as well as other “favourites” from their vocal repertoire.
Welsh-born soprano Laura Styler received her Bachelor of Arts Music Degree and her Postgraduate in Music specializing in Voice from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Wales, UK. In Canada Laura has been singing in Calgary Opera Chorus and has performed in many of their productions over the past eight years – including their recent Summer Festival concerts in the East Village. Laura has also sang with Cowtown Opera and Calgary Concert Opera Company and as a soloist with Calgary Bach Society for Bach Magnificat and Mendlesohn’s Magnificat as well as a soloist in the annual “Spring is Singing” concert organized by the Calgary Welsh Society. Laura won the David G.Morris Memorial Prize at the North American Festival of Wales held in Toronto in 2013. Currently she is involved in the planning of the opening ceremony and musical involvement of the North American Festival of Wales, which will be held in Calgary, September 2016. Laura offers vocal studies at her home studio Noted Music Studio and is preparing to present her new children’s choir; Notations Children’s Choir in Fall 2016.
Argentina-born tenor Jorge Avilés made Canada his home after having studied voice and oratorio with the International Bach Society in his native city of Buenos Aires. In Calgary, he has been heard singing many leading and supporting roles with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Opera, the Civic Symphony and the Festival Chorus among others. When not singing, Mr. Avilés gives regular master classes on voice production as well as private voice lessons.

Jane Davies is a 12 year old budding young singer who studies under the direction of Laura Styler and her studio, Noted Music Studio. Jane is starting her 4th year of vocal training with Laura. With her Welsh heritage, Jane is always eager to learn new Welsh songs and has regularly performed for the Calgary Welsh Society, and also has played the roles in her school productions of Jane in Mary Poppins and Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast.
