Brad Mahon has appeared throughout Portugal, the United States, and across his native Canada, as an award winning and acclaimed guitarist, educator, and scholar.
As a guitarist and past prize winner in the Pacific Northwest Guitar Competition, Brad has been described as “an outstanding classical guitarist” (20th Century Guitar magazine, New York) and “a very accomplished performer” (CBC Radio, Canada), while his concert performances have been reviewed as “a delightful musical night and great spectacle for the audience” (Baiao Noticia, Portugal). His diverse recording portfolio — comprising commercial CD releases as well as made-for-radio broadcasts — includes the solo efforts, Six Strings (2005) and Classic Melodies (2006), as well as his most recent release, Music of Our Time with the Oberon Guitar Trio (2010), and the forthcoming East-West Guitar Duo (2011).
As a musicologist, Brad’s research interests include topics related to the guitar—its history, performance practice, pedagogy, & cultural impression. BradMahon.com
Although his formal education is primarily in Classical music, Murray Visscher’s diverse background has put him on stage with jazz performers such as Ian MacDougall and Juno award winner Hugh Fraser. Murray currently performs and records with colleagues Ralph Maier and Brad Mahon as “The Oberon Guitar Trio”. The group recently appeared in concert in several Canadian cities, including Victoria BC, for the Northwest Guitar Festival. Murray has also released a solo cd, “The Early Romantic Guitar” (Titania), which includes works of 19th century composers performed on a replica of an instrument from the Romantic era. This recording, along with the Oberon Guitar Trio cd, is available on cd baby and itunes.
