Calgary Concert Opera

Since the start of Calgary Concert Opera in 2011, we have performed 12 complete live operas in concert format, including well-known operas like Carmen, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and Samson et Dalila. Over 80 professional and aspiring opera singers from across Canada have participated in these, along with collaborations with the Foothills Philharmonic Opera Chorus, Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra, 12 Musas Flamenco, Compass Performances Studios, Calgary Civic Symphony, and Toronto’s Opera by Request.

For their ProArts@Noon concert on Sept 20th, Calgary Concert Opera and Opera by Request come together again to perform excerpts from their upcoming performances of Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvruer. The Concert is performed in it’s entirety on Sept 22nd in Airdrie, Sept 24th in Okotoks & Sept 26th at the Jack Singer Lobby of Arts Commons.

A love triangle between the French actress Adriana Lecouvreur, the Princess de Bouillon and Maurizio, the Count of Saxony. This opera contains everything you might desire from a plot, including the real-life romance between Adriana (soprano Kathleen Morrison) and Maurizio (tenor Ernesto Ramirez), her rivalry with Princess de Bouillon (mezzo-soprano Barbara King/Alicia Woynarski), and her unexpected and mysterious death. Love, infidelity, murder, and glorious music…it doesn’t get more “opera-plot” than that!

Featuring:

Adriana Lecouvreur: Kathleen Morrison

Maurizio, Count of Saxony: Ernesto Ramirez

Prince de Bouillon: Uwe Dambruch

Princess de Bouillon: Barbara King

Michonnet: Bertrand Malo

The Abbe de Chazeuil: Oliver Munar

Mlle Jouvenot: Alyssa Durnie

Mlle Dangeville: Cristina Lanz
