Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artists Ensemble “in-progress performances”

The Calgary Opera Emerging Artists Development Program is intended to benefit Canadian singers who have completed pre-professional training at an opera program. It will serve as a bridge between academic programs and the professional world of opera, offering the experience and practical skills necessary to succeed as a self-employed professional in a highly competitive international environment.

Opera meets professional wrestling. It seems like an uneasy marriage to be sure. Presented as an in-progress Calgary Opera production – excerpts from The Untimely Death of Whatsisname tells the tale of a B circuit pro-wrestler who’s past his prime. Andy (The Mongrel) McNab has lived a life in the fast lane, indulging in all the pitfalls so common to the wrestling world.

Also being presented as an in-progress Calgary Opera production titled Hannaraptor. Set against the backdrop of the Alberta Badlands, this opera for young audiences tells the story of a girl whose determination to protect a beloved dinosaur skeleton propels her into a life-and-death struggle.

This concert is presented in co operation with the 2013 High Performance Rodeo – Calgary’s International Festival of the Arts!
