Collegium Musicum, early music ensemble

Collegium Musicum is the University of Calgary’s ensemble dedicated to the study and performance of early music (usually meaning music from Bach’s time and before.)  The theme this year is “England: From Madrigals to Messiah”.

On March 22 we will present madrigals about love and loss by Weelkes and Morley, excerpts from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and some of the lesser-known choruses from Handel’s Messiah.

Made up of 18 singers and instrumentalists from across the University of Calgary, Collegium Musicum is delighted to present some of our work from this term for the Pro Arts Society.  We hope you will join us.

Director Julie Harris holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Calgary and an Artist Diploma from the University of Toronto. She also studied early music in The Hague for which she received a grant from the Canada Council. Upon returning to Calgary in 1999, she created and runs the Early Music Voices Concert Series.   As well as being a member of Calgary’s VoiceScapes, she is also half of Duo Seraphim with Toronto-based soprano Katherine Hill. Julie is currently completing a graduate degree in voice performance at the UofC and coaches for various local community choirs and high schools.

This concert is the second in a series of six Choral Concerts during 2017 generously sponsored by:
