Handel wrote Messiah in 1742 for modest vocal and instrumental forces, with optional settings for many of the individual numbers. In the years after his death, the work was adapted for performance on a much larger scale, with giant orchestras and choirs, and has gone on to become his masterpiece.
Come hear this year’s Debut Singers for VoiceScapes’ Sing Along Messiah!
Seven singers from across Alberta will bring you their interpretations of arias from Handel’s beloved Messiah, accompanied by Carlos Foggin, pipe organ.
These singers were auditioned by VoiceScapes in the fall of 2012 from a group of twenty singers across the province. All these singers are early in their professional development as singers – they are either currently studying or just launching their singing careers. Successful candidates from the auditions receive coaching on performance practice for baroque music and have the opportunity to build valuable professional singing experience.
