Gene and Elizabeth Maurice Choral Music Concert Series 2020 – Artist Bios

Collegium Musicum – Early music chorus – March 4, 2020
Collegium Musicum is the University of Calgary’s ensemble dedicated to the study and performance of early music (usually meaning music from Bach’s time and before).
Made up of 18 singers and instrumentalists from across the University of Calgary, Collegium Musicum is delighted to present some of our work from this term for the Pro Arts Society.

Calgary Girls Choir – April 1, 2020
The Calgary Girls Choir has been providing exceptional choral training along with performance and touring opportunities since 1995.  We are an award-winning and internationally renowned choir that inspires and empowers young women through music. For over two decades, hundreds of girls have achieved a high level of artistry and confidence. Quality repertoire and a child-centered approach are the foundations of our program.

Vocal Latitudes World Music Choir – April 29, 2020
Vocal Latitudes is a non-audition, community choir in Calgary, Alberta.
Want to experience the benefits of singing in a welcoming vocal community? Vocal Latitudes may be the choir for you. Vocal Latitudes meets Tuesday evenings from September to May in a convenient central location.  Repertoire includes jazz, gospel, African, Canadian, Renaissance, pop and original contemporary.

The Calgary Irish Cultural Choir – June 17, 2020
The Calgary Irish Cultural Choir has been representing the Irish community in Calgary for more than thirty years, creating a vibrant and hospitable space for the celebration of Irish and Celtic culture.

German Canadian Male Chorus – October 28, 2020
The German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary, with over 30 active members, was founded in 1971. For a majority of that time our fate has been in the capable hands of director Susan Woodward. The events calendar has typically included a fall or spring concert, sometimes sharing the stage with groups like the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Calgary Opera Chorus, or the Calgary Concert Band. The Chorus has made numerous trips abroad to the USA and to Europe. In September 2014 the Chorus was in southern Germany and Austria, giving concerts together with local choirs.

The Calgary Renaissance Singers and Players – November 4, 2020
The Calgary Renaissance Singers & Players aim to inspire, entertain and educate their audience and singing members alike through the music, culture and history of the Renaissance.  The group enriches its performances with works of other periods that celebrate the spirit of the Renaissance. CRSP thrives on new creative opportunities: from singing at the planetarium to acting, dancing and playing instruments, and from collaborating with brass, harpsichord and recorder players to jamming with jazz saxophonists.

Mass Energy Choral Concert – November 25, 2020
A HUGE audience favourite – and for good reason – the annual MASS ENERGY choral concert brings together four of Calgary’s oil patch choirs for both individual performances, as well as a gigantic combined-choirs finale. Featuring four choirs: Repsol choir, ConocoPhillips choir, Suncor Energy Choir and TransCanada In Harmony choir. Bring your singing voice and join in.
