The Harmonica Tableau consists of a group of Seniors with a love for music and performance opportunities. The group was established in 1992 and has had a presence in the community in and around Calgary since inception. They take great pride in having performed yearly at the world famous “Calgary Exhibition and Stampede”. The group practices once a week and performs an average of twice a month over a 10 month period. Their appearances are mainly at Senior Residences and Nursing Homes. The average age of the group is 84 years.
Two of the active members have been with the band since it began and there have been many roster changes over the years but the music has remained the same. The members range in talent from trained professionals to rank beginners. The biggest percentage of the group do not read music. Various members when asked to do a solo can provide classical to jazz improvisation. For the most part we play chromatic harmonicas as apposed to diatonic. The chromatic harmonica provides access to every note in the scale including sharps and flats. The practices and the outing provide a healthy tonic for those of us who would have no other source of relaxation and entertainment. We hope to entertain YOU.
