A short biography of the Irish Cultural Society of Calgary choir 2022
In November 1992 a group of Irish Immigrants and their Canadian friends formed the Irish Cultural Society of Calgary choir. Thirty years later this welcoming group of singers regularly rehearse on Wednesday night at the Irish Cultural Society Hall in Bowness. The Choir performs and entertains at multiple venues in and around Calgary, nursing homes, folk clubs, libraries and the ProArts Noon series.
On March 03, 2020 we were invited to sing at the Nose Hill Library Branch. Another wonderful event for the choir, sharing our enthusiasm and love of our culture in song, with our neighbours and friends.Little did we know that would be our last live performance for over two years. The choir continued to “meet” during COVID on Zoom, but it was not the same. We are delighted to be back together again.
On June 07, 2022 we performed at the Irish Cultural Centre for seniors week. It was amazing to be in front of a live audience again. On June 18, 2022 we performed once again at the Water Valley Celtic festival. An amazing venue to share our Celtic heritage.
We are delighted to be invited again to perform here at the Pro Arts Noon Series. You are a wonderful audience, and we love to see your smiling faces as you enjoy our songs.
Joe Massey conducts the choir and arranges the set programs while Tara Sullivan and Leslie O’Loughlin (piano) and Lane Henry (violin) Greg Black (guitar) Doug Wagner (fiddle) Tony Hogan (bodhran) Joe Massey (whistle) provide accompaniment to this amazing, fun-loving, joyful choir.
The Irish Cultural Society Choir will be singing a variety of both contemporary and Traditional Irish songs. The set includes lively songs which will have you tapping your feet, while the slower tunes and ballads you will find very moving, so listen closely to the words. The Choir is delighted to be invited back to the ProArts@Noon Concert Series once again, to entertain their wonderful audience. Please sing along.
