MOSAIC QUARTET brings together violinist Sara Far, violinist Cameron Leah, violist Andrea Poon and cellist Tyler Stewart. All have completed or are completing post secondary degrees in music and several perform regularly with various ensembles. For these emerging artists – music is mood medicine – a world within itself with a language we all understand…
Cellist Tyler Stewart is currently completing a Bachelor of Music with Beth Root Sandvoss at the University of Calgary. He has attended the international festival academies of Domaine Forget in Quebec, and the Accademia Europea dell’Opera, in Lucca, Italy, where he performed as Principal Cello of the orchestra for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Tyler is also pursuing studies of the intersection of social justice and music under the supervision of Dr. Laura Hynes, a field he is particularly passionate about. In November 2018 he will begin his Masters of Music with Lucio Labella Danzi at the Florence Conservatory.
Violinist Sara Far began playing at the age of 3 with Keiko Takahashi, later studying with University of Calgary Professor Edmond Agopian. For 9 years she was a member of the Amici String Program, where she participated in masterclasses and chamber music from a young age. She has competed in the Calgary Performing Arts Festival every year for the past 10 years, recently placing first at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival in the Violin Senior category in 2017. As a member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra, Sara has travelled to France and Germany to share her music with the world. An enthusiastic ensemble musician, Sara currently performs with the Mosaic String Quartet and has served as Principal Second Violin of the University of Calgary Orchestra.
Violist Andrea Poon began violin studies at the Mount Royal Conservatory at the age of 5. During her time with Mount Royal she spent 8 years attending the Academy Program, where she first discovered the viola. Since then, Andrea has received her Bachelor of Music with honours from the University of Toronto, and Masters of Music and Pre-Doctorate Diploma (D.E.P.A) from the University of Montreal. As an avid chamber musician, Andrea has been fortunate to play in several ensembles throughout Canada and Europe.
