monthly recitals, Christmas programs for Senior Centres, corporations and a spring school tour of the Opera production The Old Man Who Loved Cheese, a children’s opera composed by American composer Edward Barnes from the story by Garrison Keillor of Lake Wobegon fame. Weekly rehearsals and Master classes by notable singers, actors, choreographers and directors were all part of the Vocal Academy training this year.
The song recital offering by Vocal Academy for Pro Arts Society will include highlights from the various recitals this year, from French mélodie and German lieder to classic Italian arias, American art song and arias from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss. Songs that evoke the wonders of far east to the simple splendours of the American south. Songs of laughter, wonder and praise sung by some of Calgary’s gifted young artists.
