Mount Royal Kantorei presents a warm and reflective winter program . The concert highlights the music of Ola Gjeilo including Northern Lights, The Rose, Ubi Caritas, and Sunrise from the Sunrise Mass. These pieces are paired with seasonal favourites such as Gaudete, The Twelve Days of Christmas, Joy to the World arranged by John Rutter, and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. The program blends contemporary choral writing with familiar holiday music to create a beautiful and uplifting midday concert.
Mount Royal Kantorei is one of Calgary’s leading choral ensembles. The choir was founded more than 30 years ago and is part of the Mount Royal University Conservatory. We now have 95 singers and perform a wide range of music including classical works, contemporary choral repertoire, and newly commissioned pieces. Kantorei recently won an award at the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition at the Cork International Choral Festival in Ireland. The choir has also produced a well received music video series that has reached thousands of viewers.
We are the hosts of the annual Kantorei Choral Festival which welcomes choirs and singers from across Canada and around the world. The festival has featured guest artists such as Katerina Gimon, Jake Runestad, and Ola Gjeilo. Under the direction of John Morgan, Kantorei continues to grow and explore new artistic ideas through performances, collaborations, and community engagement.
This concert is the twelfth in a Series of twelve Choral Concerts during 2025 that is generously sponsored by:
