Canadian Soprano Alyssa Durnie, praised by Opera Canada for her “superb, released ring”, has recently completed her Diploma in Operatic Performance at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Wendy Nielsen. Ms. Durnie has performed throughout Canada and Europe.

Most recently, Ms. Durnie appears as the Mother in Hansel and Gretel with Calgary’s Three Sisters Young Artists Company. During her time at the University of Toronto she performed as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, as Clomiri in the Toronto’s premiere of Handel’s Imeneo, and under the baton of Russell Braun, as Diane in Orphée aux Enfers. Ms. Durnie also appeared as an Opera Fan in the world’s first zombie opera, Prima Zombie: The Diva That Just Wouldn’t Stay Dead, composed by U. of T. Operas’ student composers collective. Other operatic credits include Chorus in La Boheme with Against the Grain Theatre, Gianetta in The Gondoliers with Opera NUOVA, title role in Suor Angelica with University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel with the Lethbridge Symphony.

Ms. Durnie represented Alberta in 2016 at the National Music Festival where she placed first in the voice category. This past season Ms. Durnie has been seen with Classical Revolution, Cowtown Opera, The King Eddy, and is the Co-Founder of The Three Sisters Young Artists! Ms. Durnie is thrilled to be performing back in her city!

Join soprano Alyssa Durnie and collaborative pianist Jack Olszewski as they present “L’invitation au voyage“- a collection of songs and arias that tell the stories of women who has broken free from their barriers of confinement. Included in the noon hour performance will be works by Verdi, Duparc, Copland, Strauss, Wolf, Wagner and Canada’s very own John Estacio. Please join us for a wonderful celebration of women through music and song.
