A native of Montréal, Québec, mezzo soprano Barbara King currently resides in Calgary, Alberta, where she has been thrilling audiences with her “exquisite vocal command of a three octave range” and the “possession of a warm, agile mezzo-soprano voice”. Barbara is also the co-founder Calgary Concert Opera Company with her husband and Divas Opera with soprano Kathleen Morrison.
Barbara ended 2019 singing the role of Dalila in Samson et Dalila and started 2020 debuting as a principle soloist with Calgary Civic Symphony. In 2018, Ms. King sang the role of Carmen with Opera Kelowna, was an Alumni Mentor with Opera NUOVA and sang as Flora in Manitoba Opera’s new production of La Traviata.
In light of the pandemic, Ms. King went virtual where Divas Opera released six “Physically Distant” duets, performed in a live stream #bandtogetherproject and pre-taped concert for Spruce Meadows Canada Day celebration with Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra, produced and performed in a live performance with an audience in September 2020 (The Show Must Go On), and released seven online Christmas duets.
Barbara is thrilled to be singing for a live audience again on Aug 4th with ProArts@Noon. Joining her on stage will be Grace King on piano as well as guest artists of Divas Opera, soprano Kathleen Morrison and Jill Kotchon (piano). We come together to perform a wide range of repertoire including the Divas greatest hits and audience favourites in preparation for their upcoming concert on August 10th at the Calgary Marriott Hotel. www.mezzoking.com
