A native of Campbell River, BC, Matthew Blackburn began serious musical studies at the Victoria Conservatory of Music with Jamie Syer in 2005. He received an Associate diploma from the Victoria Conservatory of Music in both piano performance and pedagogy as well as his ARCT in 2007. He then continued his studies at the University of Lethbridge, receiving his Bachelor of Music in 2009. Since then, Matthew has been performing extensively, as well as keeping a busy teaching studio. Performances have included his concerto debut with the Lethbridge Symphony as a result of winning their young artist competition, chamber music and solos in the Fort Macleod International Festival, and a solo recital in the Kelowna Pianoforte Festival. He has been featured as guest artist with Musaeus String Quartet, and performed as soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Matthew has also had several opportunities to study and perform both solo and chamber music at Académie Musicale Internationale “Barbara Krakauer” in Vaison la Romaine, France. Currently Matthew is a Master of Music (piano performance) candidate at the University of Calgary.
