Who Cares is a music collective formed in 2020 between violinist Laura Reid and flautist Jiajia Li. With similar training backgrounds in classical music, the aim of the project was originally to provide personal and musical support for each other during the pandemic, while searching for new ways to present classical and contemporary music. Through livestreams and music videos, they have been able to connect with fellow musicians and music lovers alike, discussing topics ranging from music to selfcare along the way. Having released two previous EPs and with their music videos having reached thousands of viewers, the duo pushes forward in their unique presentation of contemporary classical music with their latest EP, Simple Lines of Enquiry.
LAURA REID From a Suzuki violin kid through an orchestral career, Laura now plays classical music on formal stages, contributes to recording projects, and improvises and collaborates within the experimental music community.
JIAJIA LI Since 2014, Jiajia’s wide interests in music have taken her from concert hall appearances with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra to improvised shows with the experimental concert series Bug Incision, to directing a traditional Chinese ensemble, Gailan Ensemble, and forming her latest pop band, Ginger Beef.
A noon-hour concert of boundary-pushing contemporary music, featuring local and Canadian works specially curated for the acoustic environment of Cathedral Church of the Redeemer.
This concert is a proud Community Co-Presentation with the High Performance Rodeo, Calgary’s International Festival of the Arts.
