Jeremy Gignoux is a violinist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer based in Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 otherwise known as Calgary, Alberta, but originally from France. While classically trained, he has spent his career getting involved in many other styles from country fiddle to jazz and exploratory music. His artistic purpose lies in balancing his admiration for traditional music and his longing for weird sounds.
Some of his main musical projects include the Acoustic Ensemble: a Parisian-swing inspired string band playing his compositions, Calgaréal: a collective from Calgary and Montréal playing trad-inspired improvisation-based music, and Odd Stillness: an experimental recording project to be released in 2024. Some of his current musical collaborations include country/western singer Matt Masters band, latin-flamenco fusion Notas de 4, and cinematically revised old folk Mike Tod band.
Jeremy has had the delight to collaborate with other performing art like dance and theatre. He was part of two Decidedly Jazz Danceworks productions, collaborative dance pieces with Catherine Hayward, Kimberley Cooper, and Marie-France Forcier, a bluegrass musical with Rosebud Theatre, and has been part of the development of Jacqueline Russell’s one-clown show Allergic to Water since 2020.
For Pro Arts performance, Jeremy will be accompanied by Keith Rodger on double bass and Wayne Garrett on guitar and will present his compositions from his album Cinacoustic.
