As a writer and recording artist Johnny has received much critical acclaim as the recipient of 7 Global Music Awards for his discography of 5, nomination for an AMPIA award for best original film score for Burlesque Assassins, and YYCMA nomination for Jazz Artist of the Year 2016. He is currently completing his next recording project to feature his original composition, Suite Jubilation, with artists in the Calgary Jazz Orchestra and the New West Symphony Chorus- April 2017 release.

Johnny recently returned from New Orleans where he performed with Ellis Marsalis as part of the 2017 Jazz Educators Network conference.  Before commencing this tour Johnny worked with Ellis Marsalis and his trio on a recording project at the Ellis Marsalis Centre of Music, set for a release later in 2017.
