MAPL Quintet is a Calgary-based jazz group dedicated to exploring the possibilities of the Canadian songbook. Pianist Andrea Petrity and saxophonist/clarinetist Frank Rackow have given songs by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, kd lang, Bruce Cockburn and others a fresh, jazzy twist.
Featuring the beguiling vocals of Nynne Collins, MAPL has been featured at Heritage Park, the National Music Centre, Westlock Performing Arts Centre, and Okotoks’ Rotary Performing Arts Centre, among others. The group’s debut recording has received airplay across the country and is part of several streaming playlists, including CBC music.
For this concert as part of the ProArts Jazz series, MAPL will present some of its best loved re imaginings of great Canadian songs and some original instrumental numbers too. Come hear some of your favourite songs given a brand new feel.
