Calgary Mezzo-Soprano Maria Drost’s training began at Rocky Mountain College where she attained recognition as the lead Soprano in the choir, as well as winning a number of awards and scholarships through local festivals. Ms. Drost went on to be awarded the Government of Western Ontario Research Scholarship for both years of her Masters Degree at the University of Western Ontario. After graduating, Ms. Drost made her debut with Cowtown Opera Company to sing 2nd Lady in their production of Die Zauberflöte. Subsequently she was invited to Italy to sing Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro for The Centre of Operatic Studies in Italy the summer of 2012. Ms. Drost has sung for the Calgary Opera chorus and has presented a number of solo recitals for the ProArts Society in Calgary. Ms. Drost was presented in the Calgary Concert of Hope in 2012 & 2014. The acclaimed Tapestry New Opera in Toronto featured Ms. Drost in their Tapestry Songbook Concert. Ms. Drost is an up and coming Mezzo-Soprano, she truly is a singing actress and is an exciting voice coming into her own.
