Now celebrating its seventh season, One Voice Chorus (OVC) is a mixed-voice choir for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, and queer singers and their straight and cisgender allies. We are an auditioned choir with a wide-ranging repertoire: from classical to jazz, from madrigals to showtunes, and more!
We believe in the importance of artistic collaborations as a way to build bridges and foster community. Our collaborators have included the Backyard Betties, Calgary Men’s Chorus, the BarberEllas, Peter Cameron, Edmonton Vocal Minority, Rae Spoon, and Sheri-D Wilson. Frequently, we use our singing voices to support community groups like The Boys and Girls Club of Calgary, HIV Community Link, and Camp fYrefly.
We sing at events to celebrate Affirming Congregations like Scarboro United Church, Knox United Church, Knox Presbyterian Church, and the Unitarian Church of Calgary. We are interested in learning how we can be good allies to others. This autumn, our semester of learning will culminate in a Saturday November 25 concert at MRU’s Leacock Theatre on the topic of Truth and Reconciliation, featuring Indigenous guest artists Chantal Stormsong Chagnon and Dwight Farahat, and Indigenous guest speakers Evans Yellow Old Woman and Michelle Robinson.
Our Artistic Director is Jane Perry. www.onevoicechorus.ca
