Bijan Maysami is a Calgary based Iranian Canadian musician, composer and master of the Santur (Persian Hammered Dulcimer) He is a prominent figure in the Canadian world music scene, recognized for blending traditional Iranian sounds with global influences.
Musical Background and Career of BIJAN MAYSAMI
- Instrumental Expertise: Maysami began playing the santur at age six, learning by ear from his uncle, santur master Dr. Hossein Meysemi, following the Iranian Revolution.
- HYMMelodies: He is a co-founder (2015) of the world music band HYMMelodies, which fuses Persian and Arabic melodies with Klezmer, Flamenco, and jazz. The group has performed at major venues like the Jack Singer Concert Hall.
- Compositions and Media: He composed original music for the 2025 project Foreign Homeland and has released several works on platforms like Apple Music, including the album Aurora Lights.
- Advocacy: He uses his music to support social causes, notably being active in the “Be Their Voice” movement and recently founding the Calgary Iranian Choir in early 2026.
