Jeremy Gignoux is ever oscillating between calling himself a violinist or a fiddler. Playing in between those lines, he has developed an original sound and technique.
Originally from France, he studied classical violin and piano from the age of seven. He composed from an early age and got a few pieces played by various ensembles at his music school. Later on he picked up interest in Irish fiddle music as well as blues and rock ‘n roll, jazz and bluegrass.
Now based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, AB), Jeremy loves collaborating with other performing arts, and was part of the house band for two Decidedly Jazz Danceworks productions and a musical with Rosebud Theatre. In 2017, he was the composer and sole musician for Catherine Hayward’s piece in Dancer’s Studio West’s Metamorphosis.
His main project the Acoustic Ensemble plays lyrical instrumental music that defies genre classification, stretching from Parisian Swing to folk experiments. His compositions are featured in his album Cinacoustic.
For this Pro Arts at Noon concert, Jeremy will be teaming up with Keith Rodger. Most known for his versatility on upright bass in bands ranging from Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra to Boots and the Hoots, Keith also plays guitar, tenor banjo, and Irish flute. As a duo, they will be performing some of Jeremy’s compositions as well as unique takes on jazz standards as well as Klezmer and Celtic traditionals.
