 Sies / Parsons Duo (percussion_piano)

Praised for his “virtuoso flair” (Detroit Free Press), percussionist Chris Sies joins forces with “stellar pianist” (Chicago Classical Review) Jani Parsons in a concert of duo and solo works for piano and percussion, featuring a multitude of creative voices.

Known primarily for their work as contemporary musicians, the Sies/Parsons Duo will not only champion the works of living composers, but honor staples of their repertoire on this program.

With modern works such as Marc Mellits’ Tight Sweater Remix, and Omar Daniel’s impassioned STELCO the duo invites listeners into their soundworld, blending the intensely rhythmic elements of the piano with the melodic nuances of different percussion instruments. Parsons will pay homage to the solo piano literature in a performance of Claude Debbussy’s Estampes, while Sies offers a new masterwork for marimba and electronics, How Sweet The Thought of You As Infinite from Emma O’Halloran.

This program represents the duo’s eclectic interests as performers and will surely give audience members a sonic experience that is extensive, expressive, and memorable.

This concert is the second in a series of Five Piano Concerts during 2023 generously sponsored by:
