Terri Shouldice – Flute
A (fourth generation) native Calgarian, Terri’s love for music began at a young age, learning both the piano and later, the flute. She holds Certificates from the Royal Conservatory of Music in both piano and flute. Terri graduated from the University of Calgary with a BMus in Secondary School Education.
Terri moved to Montana where she taught music both privately and in the school system. She played in the Butte Symphony Orchestra. Returning to Calgary to raise her four daughters (her other passion), Terri has played flute/piccolo with many different ensembles over the years including the Calgary Wind Symphony (previously the Calgary Concert Band), Sinfonia Alberta, Alberta Winds, Calgary Civic Symphony, Wild Rose Trio, accompanying choirs and numerous musicals in community pit orchestras. Terri has been fortunate to travel with her music to Europe four times!
Terri studied flute most recently with Lauren Eselson, teaches clinics in the schools, performs in the woodwind trio Trinity Winds with Mary Hamm, clarinet and Aaron Wong, bassoon as well as The Patio Set and continues her long time membership with the Calgary Wind Symphony and as of recent the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra and Ambrose Chamber Orchestra.
Julie Jacques is a Canadian pianist and collaborative artist, originally from Sarnia Ontario. She graduated from the University of Calgary in 1977 with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (With Distinction) and in 1983 with a Master of Arts (Musicology). As a freelance accompanist, she plays for anything that draws breath or bow. A sympathetic collaborator and coach, Ms. Jacques is known for her versatility and enthusiasm for all musical styles. She has worked extensively with professionals and gifted youth in their preparation for recitals, auditions and competitions. Her vast and varied repertoire includes hundreds of works for all instruments.
From 1988-2007, Julie was affiliated with The Conservatory at Mount Royal University, where she was a collaborative pianist for students in the prestigious Academy for Gifted Youth and was their Coordinator of Accompanying. She also worked in the Morningside Music Bridge Program both as accompanist and as concert manager.
In addition to being one of the founding members of The Wild Rose Trio, Julie created The Patio Set in the summer of 2020: a collection of musicians from the Calgary Wind Symphony. A number of ensembles went out into the community, playing over a dozen concerts in cul-de-sacs, courtyards, parks, and patios, to great enthusiasm. Julie is a passionate communicator with a special gift for connecting the music to the audience with lively anecdotes about the repertoire, the composers and the instruments.
