Caitlyn O’Connor is a singer/songwriter, actor, and dancer from Calgary. This year she completed a four theatre training program at Rosebud School of the Arts. Caitlyn’s folk/jazz/alternative style is the groundwork for her lyrical storytelling—her self-titled debut album Caitlyn O’Connor includes stories about love, a lamentation to her late grandmother, and a song simply about being bored. It is also a variety pack of genres and instruments, from peppy kangas to haunting violin. Caitlyn has performed in a variety of venues in Rosebud and Calgary, including the 15 Minutes of Fame Music Festival, the Thorny Rose Café, the Akokiniskway Art Gallery, and other private venues. In 2017 she was awarded the Zacharius Recording Scholarship with doG House Studios. Caitlyn is ecstatic to be collaborating with her personal musical inspiration Alixandra Cowman for the very first time.
With her band, The Dearhearts, Alixandra Cowman has played music across North America. Now, she’s stepping out on her own, bringing her unique style of music with her. She’s Dolly Parton meets Ingrid Michaelson; She & Him meets Abigail Washburn. Her music is heart-forward and honest, and her voice is a powerhouse blend of her classical training and her experience in the world of folk music. With lyrics that can be simultaneously irreverent and devastating (“Dead, dead, we’re all gonna be dead” is one example), Alixandra doesn’t shy away from the truth of the song, and does it all with a wink and a grin. Alixandra will sweep you into the clouds with beautiful melodies, and bring you back down to earth with the music that was written in her bones from the beginning.
