The mission of Cowtown Opera Company is to increase the number of opera enthusiasts in Calgary by providing fun and interactive opera experiences. Whether it’s a Random Act of Culture in a mall or one of our widely entertaining shows, Cowtown Opera is breathing new life into an art form that has traditionally been misunderstood and stereotyped as elitist and boring (cue tumbleweed).

Cowtown Opera Founder and Artistic Director – Michelle Minke

Calgary soprano Michelle Minke, was most recently seen as Pousette in Massenet’s Manon for Calgary Opera, as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Calgary Civic Symphony and as Lisa in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades for Toronto’s Opera by Request.

Michelle currently teaches voice at Ambrose University College, the Chinook School of Music, and is a branch teacher for Mount Royal University. She is the founder and artistic director for Cowtown Opera Company and the Song Symposium Series.
