Egor Ukoloff, originally from Russia, was born into a musician’s family. He received his Masters in Jazz upon graduating from Rostov-on-Don Music College and conservatory as a pianist. Egor then was touring Europe with his jazz ensemble while teaching in a college and in 1986 he won third place in an International Competition for the jazz pianists (under 30 years old) in Poland.
In 1989 Egor received a scholarship to attend The Banff School for the Arts and studied jazz with such a giants as Dave Holland, Rufus Reed, Ted Dunbar and Steve Coleman.
Egor has worked in all kinds of engagements; from playing with Calgary Prime Time Big Band to MTV’s urban soul band Yomozo (for which he has done all arrangements and co-wrote and wrote the originals for their self-titled début CD); working with vocalists, duos, trios etc., doing jingles for radio and TV appearances and numerous jazz festivals.
For nearly a decade Egor has worked as a bandmaster for the Seabourn and then Princess Cruise Lines but now he’s back to Calgary and you can hear him at different venues in Calgary and around the province playing every style – from jazz to The Legendary Platters and The Canadian Tenors who he wrote many arrangements for.
