In 2015, Bijan Maysami formed the band Hymmmelodies, and they have been performing regularly to appreciative audiences for the past 9 years. Hymm is a fusion world music band, with musicians and artists from a variety of backgrounds who have been or are part of the band.

Given the ongoing conflicts around the world, we aim to promote peace through our music.

-Band members come from diverse backgrounds, including Iranian, Syrian, Russian, Spanish, Mexican, Chilean, French, Pakistani, Afghan, Indian, Lebanese, and Canadian. We represent a wide range of beliefs—Muslim, Christian, Jewish, spiritualist, and atheist.

With this diversity, we hope to spread a message of peace and demonstrate how art and music can bring people together.

Known for its unique fusion of diverse musical styles, HYMM has captivated audiences with a harmonious blend of Persian and Arabic melodies, Klezmer, Flamenco guitar, electric bass, percussion, and dance. The band’s distinctive sound reflects a world without musical boundaries, seamlessly integrating influences from various cultures.

HYMM has performed at major events such as GlobalFest, TEDxYYC at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, Alberta Culture Days, and the Grand Theatre. They’ve also held concerts like East Meets West and are regular performers at Kawa Espresso Bar and Congress Coffee Company. The band has been featured on CBC, CJSW, and CKUA.

Their debut EP, “Colours of Peace,” includes original compositions by band members and new arrangements of traditional tunes.

HYMM celebrates their 9th anniversary show on Sunday, May 5 at Ironwood from 7 to 9 PM.
