Laura Styler-Jones (soprano) was born in South Wales, U.K. and received a BA (Hons) Music degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 1998 and then continued to undertake a Masters in Vocal Performance in 2002.
Her choral performances include various radio, television broadcasts with the B.B.C. Choir of Wales as well as with the Welsh Chamber Singers. She sang at the National Lottery Conference at the Millennium Stadium with her all female a capella group Sempre, singing lieder at St David’s Hall, Cardiff as a part of a pre-concert to the B.B.C. Orchestra of Wales. Whilst at music college Laura sang in lead roles for various operas including Britten’s Albert Herring, Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel and Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen. Laura has also been a soloist for various Male Voice Choirs throughout Wales.
Since moving to Calgary in 2005 she has sung in the Calgary Opera Chorus, with Cowtown Opera and Calgary Concert Opera. Laura currently teaches voice and piano at her home studio; Cantabile Music Studio and thoroughly enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion of music.
Special guest Barbara King (mezzo-soprano) is thrilling audiences with her “exquisite vocal command of a three octave range” and the possession of a “warm, agile mezzo-soprano voice”. A native of Montréal, Québec, Barbara currently resides in Calgary, Alberta. Credits include Countess Ceprano (Rigoletto), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Romeo (I Capuleti ed I Montecchi), La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica), Berta (l Barbiere di Siviglia) , Mistress Quickly (Falstaff), Charlotte (Werther) and the Third Lady (The Magic Flute). Barbara has had the pleasure of singing with Calgary Opera, Tuscia Opera Festival in Viterbo in Italy, Opera by Request in Toronto, Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy, Opera Nuova in Edmonton, The Calgary Concert Opera Company (CCOC), Cowtown Opera and Mercury Opera. International concert performances include Carnegie Hall (New York), Felton Fleet Academy (Surrey, England), The Opera Institute of California (San Jose), Coesfeld Germany, and the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute in Montréal. Upcoming roles include Carmen and Mercedes (Carmen), and La Zia Principessa (Suor Angelica) with the CCOC, and Adalgisa (Norma) with Opera by Request.
