Soprano Melanie Baux has always loved being surrounded by music. Her interests range from Opera and Art Song to Broadway and Musical Theatre. Melanie has a Diploma in Music Performance from Mount Royal University and a Bachelor of Music Performance from The University of Manitoba. Melanie has studied under Winston Noren, Karen Jensen and Canadian coloratura Tracy Dahl. She has coached with collaborative artists, Michelle Mourre, Shannon Heibert, Michael McMahon and Joan Krueger and conductors Louis Burkot, Gordon Gerrard, John Di Constanzo and John Greer. Melanie has done additional training with Opera NUOVA (Edmonton, Alberta), Westchester Vocal Institute (Bronxville, New York) and Halifax Opera Workshop (Halifax, Nova Scotia).
On the opera stage Melanie’s credits include Venus in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld and Beth in Adamo’s Little Women. In concert Melanie has performed Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate with the University of Manitoba Orchestra, Schubert’s Mass in C with The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Opera Excerpts with The Calgary Youth Orchestra and premiered Elizabeth Raum’s Prairie Alphabet with The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. This past season, she has performed Handel’s Arcadian duets with the Calgary Bach Festival society as well as Rameau’s In Convertendo and the Charpentier Te Deum. Most recently, Melanie performed Bach’s Easter Oratorio as well as Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the Cantare Children’s Choir and The Bach Festival Orchestra. Melanie shows versatility as a sought after recitalist, displaying her artistry through unique and challenging repertoire.
