Soundboard Piano Concert Tour

For Soundboard Music, Tour Director Lana Henchell, piano performance has enriched her life from a young age. Growing up she played in numerous masterclasses, festivals, and competitions before pursuing Bachelor and Master degrees in piano from the University of Calgary. After completing her Doctoral degree in piano performance from McGill University, Lana returned to Calgary, where she resumed teaching privately and at the University of Calgary. A lover of all styles, from Baroque to 21st-century composers, she has performed solo and collaboratively across Canada, in France, and in Portugal.

Five years ago, Lana launched the Soundboard Music Tour—a performance touring program designed to promote classical music, offer educational enrichment to aspiring musicians, and create awareness of the arts in Alberta.

Each Soundboard tour is unique, with concerts across the city and in venues such as museums, parks, retirement communities, and churches. This 2022 Spring tour will take the students to the Bethany and Garrison Green retirement communities, and to Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre.  The students must play in multiple venues throughout the tour, thus giving them a glimpse into the unique experience and challenges of playing a concert tour.

This ProArts@Noon Concert Series Soundboard concert will feature talented piano students (tba) of the University of Calgary—from the studios of Dr. Jani Parsons, Charles Foreman, and Marilyn Engle.  The students have a variety of backgrounds and future ambitions: to be performers, to compose, to teach, or to collaborate with other musicians.  They each have something special to share with their audiences through their passion and love for music.

This concert is the first in a series of five Emerging Artist Concerts being presented during 2022 with the generous support of:
