Trio Vertice is a versatile ensemble bringing a contemporary artistic approach to the preeminent chamber music works that have dominated the landscape for centuries, drawing on their international roots to revitalize the classic trio repertoire with fresh perspective.
While violinist Anna Stube, cellist Luka Coetzee, and pianist Jan Gzella each bring an impressive portfolio of professional accomplishment to the ensemble, together through their combination of talent and innovative curiosity Trio Vertice astounds audiences with their profound and dynamic performances of works ranging from the lyrical melodies of Franz Schubert to the rhythmic spirit of Astor Piazzolla’s legendary tangos.
Since their inception during the artistically deprived pandemic of 2020, Trio Vertice has become a vanguard of the modern classical music roster in Calgary through extensive collaborative promotional projects with the Mount Royal University in 2021 as ambassadors for the Conservatory where they receive coaching from its renowned faculty.
Trio Vertice presents works by Shostakovich, Beethoven, and Piazzolla in a richly diverse program certain to captivate a broad audience. The haunting account of Jewish suffering in Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, which transcends the conventional as a devastating imprint of the Holocaust in a politically wrought Soviet Union is mitigated by the sweeping grandeur of Beethoven’s ‘Archduke’ Piano Trio representing the pinnacle of his heroic Middle Period.
Such a substantial menu can only be topped off by an originally cabaret arrangement of The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by the Argentine King of the Tango himself, Astor Piazzolla.
