Remarked for his distinctive vocal qualities and a refined timbre exuding natural warmth, Romanian-Canadian Tenor Valentin Borsu has recently performed the role of Lord Cecil in ROBERTO DEVEREUX, with Calgary Concert Opera Company. His future engagements include the role of Tamino in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE with Grande Prairie Opera, as well as Recital engagements in Eastern Canada, France, and Romania.
Throughout his musical journey, Valentin brought to life various operatic characters, including King Ahasuerus in ESTHER, The Lover in AMELIA GOES TO THE BALL, Gastone in LA TRAVIATA, as well as Mr. Angel in IMPRESARIO. Additionally, Valentin was also cast in various Oratorio performances of MESSIAH. He has collaborated with various Opera Companies, based in Alberta, such as Calgary Concert Opera Company, Cowtown Opera, Opera Nuova, Grande Prairie Opera, and had sung with the Calgary Civic Symphony, Rosa Barocca, Firebird Symphony, and Rocky Mountains Symphony Orchestra.
Valentin holds Associate (with Distinction) and Licentiate Diplomas in Singing (ATCL/LTCL) from Trinity-Guildhall College London (UK) and is in the final stages of obtaining his Associate Diploma in Voice (ARCT) with the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (Alberta Gold Medalist).
For the ProArts audience, Valentin is excited to present the mini-recital Vola, O serenata (Fly, Oh serenade) – a program of exquisite musical gems from the Italian, Spanish, French and German Repertoire. Additionally, a selection of beautiful Art Songs, based on folk motives, from his native Romania, is also included. Centered around love and its inevitable bittersweetness, the program merges emotional serenades, with nostalgic, and at times dark testaments of unrequited/lost love.
Valentin will be joined by Piano Accompanist Cody Obst, and Classical Guitarist, Stephen Demaer.
