Calgary Choir, heading to Carnegie Hall, marks final concert with founding conductor

Vocal Latitudes World Music Choir presents, “Songs from the Village” (Kanata), at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer as part of the ProArts at Noon series on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

Come hear great choral works by Srul Irving Glick and Andrew Balfour, as well as beautiful arrangements of beloved songs by Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Coco Love Alcorn, Ian Tyson, Calgary’s Woodpigeon, Richard Desjardins and many more.   

This will be Vocal Latitudes choir’s last concert under the direction of founding conductor Frank Rackow. The mixed-voice, community choir has been a fixture in Calgary for the past 18 years, with appearances in the ProArts at Noon series, Heritage Park, the National Music Centre, Arts Commons and many senior’s residences and community centres. The choir has performed with many notable artists, including a special collaboration with singer-songwriter Coco Love Alcorn as part of the Fish Creek concert series.

In the fall, for his grand finale, Frank Rackow, director emeritus, and Vocal Latitudes choir members have been invited to participate in a performance of Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s new composition, Twilight Mass, on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City, November 13, 2023.
