GLORIOUS GOETHE
Calgary Opera’s McPhee artists will present a specially curated program of music inspired by the great German Romantic writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. His words inspired composers both of song and opera, and the program will include operatic selections from Gounod’s Faust, Mignon by Thomas, Massenet’s Werther as well as beloved songs of Schubert, Mozart, Wolf, Tchaikovsky, and Brahms. A feast for the ears and minds!
Each season, Calgary Opera provides up to eight young singers with the opportunity to study and perform under a professional staff of teachers and performers. The program serves as a bridge between academic programs and the professional world of opera, offering the experience and practical skills necessary to succeed as a self-employed artist in a highly competitive international environment.
Calgary Opera’s McPhee Artist Development Program is one of only four training programs for professional opera singers in Canada. It is a cornerstone of the company’s continuing commitment to fostering Canadian talent and community engagement. Singers receive vocal coaching, develop acting and language skills, perform in numerous productions and augment the skills they need to succeed in the highly competitive international opera industry.
Calgary Opera commits to empowering all voices, regardless of background or identity and is dedicated to creating a safe space for everyone to feel a keen sense of belonging. We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds who share in our commitment to building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment.
