Come hear the bells!
The Bow River Bells (BRB) ensemble is rejoicing in being able to ring for audiences this season!
Featuring the magnificent handbell and chime instrument, the BRB ringers will be performing their favourite Christmas repertoire, as well as introducing new exciting and challenging arrangements.
Featured in the program are new bell works by composers Jason Krug and Sandra Eithen, as well as new arrangements of beloved Christmas carols by BRB’s own Jim Winslett and Maureen Holmes. A variety of settings and bell/chime techniques will used by the ringers, and the carefully crafted piano accompaniments balance the delicate sounds of the high treble bells.
Ringing is best shared in a live venue, where the glorious sound and the movement of the bells meld into a beautiful visual “sound dance.”
The BRB bells may have been silent last season, but they are out of their cases, and ringing JOY!
The Bow River Bells (BRB) are an ensemble of advanced ringers belonging to the Bow River Handbell Musicians Society (BRHMS).
Under the direction of Annie Hergott, this small ensemble has performed in and around the Calgary area and is dedicated to bringing the handbell musical art form to audiences around Alberta.
These ringers also ring with BRHMS’ larger bell teams. Whether it’s the small, portable ensembles using just twelve bells or the large-stage groups using 74+ bells and hand chimes, the teams of BRHMS bring a unique musical experience to their audiences that is as pleasing to the eye as it is to the ear.
While the bells were silent for a while, BRB ringers rejoice in ringing again, and in sharing their Christmas repertoire with the ProArts audience.
