Blues performer Peter Fischer grew up in Guelph, Ontario where he started playing the piano at age 8 and the saxophone at 12 years. He began with his siblings record collection, but soon discovered ’50s rock with the piano and sax music of Chubby Checker, Fats Domino, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis.
In 1993, Peter moved to Chicago and played sax for two years with Eddie Burks & the Delta Blues band. His experience during the Burks years had Peter playing at BB Kings in Memphis, the Memphis in May, Crossroads Festival in Greenwood, Mississippi, Tramps in NY, NY, the Yale hotel, the King Eddie in Calgary as well as many blues clubs all over North America.
Pete’s recorded three CDs of his own, Nothing Nice (1996); I-90 Boogie (2000) which is a piano based disc of blues and ’50s standards; and Hurricane Blues (2009), which features the late, great Johnny V.
Pete moved west in 2004, getting his start with Mike Clark and his band. Since that time, he’s become a treasured part of the local scene, performing with numerous groups and in a solo format. Peter is the recipient of the CBMA Blues Award for Saxophone Player of the Year, and was a semi-finalist in the Road to Memphis International Blues Challenge for his tremendous boogie piano work.
