Jenny Andersen, vocalist

Jenny Andersen wears many artistic “hats”…and likes it that way.  Born, raised and educated in Calgary and now residing in Vancouver, her professional career has been focussed on the myriad ways in which to weave together story and song.

Jenny’s musical theatre/theatrical performances have included productions with several Western Canadian theatre companies (some favorite shows: Parade, Sweeney Todd, Out of a Dream, The 39 Steps, Threepenny Opera, Mozart and her Brother).  As a professional chorister with deep roots stemming from Calgary’s choral scene (Calgary Children’s Choir, Mount Royal, OnCue), Jenny sang for a decade with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, one of Canada’s premiere professional choirs.  Music direction/theatre direction/production includes Broadway Holiday (Gateway), Gutenberg and Titus (Van Fringe), [title of show] (Play on Words), and the creation of the Impromptu Cabaret Festival. Jenny’s compositions include a full-length musical and original songs for a number of solo cabarets.

Jenny has also been teaching voice for over 25 years and has a bustling private studio; her students have performed on stages across Canada (including the Arts Club, the Shaw Festival, Citadel, Rainbow Stage, and MTC), in addition to hundreds of shows collectively across Western Canada.  She has been on faculty since 2021 as the Singing Instructor for Studio 58, one of Canada’s top theatre conservatories.

Jenny’s favorite singer is Audra McDonald and her second favorite singer is her 2-year-old daughter, Amalia.  One of her favorite moments this year was surprising her mom and aunt – regular ProArts attendees – with the news that she’d be performing in the series.  Her favorite song is…probably in this concert, somewhere. 😉
