Kaslyn Chan is a 12 year old, eighth grade student at Bearspaw Christian School. She has been studying under Linda Kundert since she was 5 years old, and has been part of the Mount Royal University Conservatory’s Academy Program for Young Artists since 2022.

Kaslyn completed her Level 10 RCM Piano exam in June 2024, receiving First Class Honours with Distinction.  She made her professional debut with the Prosecco String Quintet in January 2024, playing Stamitz’s Concerto in F Major.

Kaslyn placed first in the 2024 IPPA Conero International Competition, in the age 12-13 young artists category.  Other accomplishments this season include placing 2nd in the Alberta Music Festival Association Provincials Thirteen and Under Piano Solo Class, and winning scholarships from the Calgary Performing Arts Festival and the Highwood Lions Music Festival.

Kaslyn is also an accomplished composer, having competed with and performed many of her original compositions. Outside of music, Kaslyn likes hiking, swimming, biking, reading and writing.  She is an active participant of a local Scouts troop and the Interact Club of Calgary West.

She attends the Cassa Musical Arts Piano and Musical Theatre programs annually, where these summer arts programs are a highlight for her and her friends.

Joel Cook is 14 years old and he is in Grade 10 at Bishop Carroll High School. Joel has been playing the piano for nine years, and he currently studies with Linda Kundert at MRU. Joel is in the Mount Royal University Academy Program for Young Artists, and he takes part in Cassa Piano camps each summer.

Joel has had the opportunity to perform at many festivals, winning scholarships and receiving provincial recommendations and awards. The achievement that Joel is most proud of is performing Mozart’s Concerto in D minor, K. 466, with the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra in January of 2024 – the prize for winners in their competition.

Joel recently finished his RCM Level 10 practical, harmony, and history exams, receiving marks of first-class honors with distinction for all three, with an average mark of 94. Joel also enjoys composing and has been recognized in competitions for his compositions. In his free time, Joel enjoys being outdoors, playing chess, and making and solving challenging math/logic problems.
